When the game changes, will you be ready?
With today’s news of Vibe magazine ending their many years in publication, it’s just another reminder of how print publication is slowly and surely fading away and how my dream of becoming a magazine writer is fading away along with it. The game is no doubt changing and it’s leaving me to wonder about what’s next. What’s next not only for print publications, but what’s next for those writers who so deserve to have their voices heard. Should we turn our attention to the online market? Maybe a collective group of writers can ban together to launch the next online magazine. There’s definitely a place online for it. Or should we fight to startup new print publications, or would that just be plan publication suicide? At this point, I’m not sure what the answer is; but what I am sure of is that we must continue to have our own voice; a voice that often falls on death ear in the mainstream media.
