“We Can Not Remain Silent!”

The following news story was taken from the Chicago Sun-Times published on January 8, 2009.

The boyfriend of a woman found with her throat apparently slashed in a southwest suburban park Wednesday night is in police custody Thursday.

Britney Brooks, 21, of the 900 block of Lois Place in Joliet, was found dead outside her vehicle at Bellview Avenue and Thorn Street near West Park in Joliet. She had suffered extensive knife wounds to her neck, face, arms and hands, according to a release from Joliet police. Police said it appears her throat was cut.

During the investigation, police learned that Brooks reported being battered by her boyfriend Jeramy J. Green, 23, on Nov. 3, 2006. Green was arrested and charged in that case, the release said. Detectives also learned that Crest Hill police had taken several complaints from Brooks about domestic battery and violation of orders of protection by Green.

Jeremy J. Green has been charged in murdering Britney Brooks.

Britney Brooks was a beautiful young woman who left this earth way too soon. May the memories she left behind comfort those who loved her.

Thanks for being a voice to those who are suffering. Today’s newspaper also had more headlines of mothers and their children being killed by the very men who claim to love them.

Women must learn to fully vet any man they attempt to build a relationship with. They must learn to love themselves before any man will ever love them.
