HIV/AIDS
According to the “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” though African-Americans account for about 13% of the US population, they account for about half (49%) of the people who get HIV and AIDS. Almost 70 percent of all newly diagnosed HIV-positive women in the United States are African-American women. African-American women are 23 times more likely to be diagnosed with AIDS than white women. HIV infection has now become the leading cause of death for African-American women 25–34 years old.
